Interior of house in Church Street

The Bishop's Castle House History Research Group was formed in 2008. Its long-term aim is to record the history of all the houses and buildings in the centre of Bishop's Castle. The project is concentrating initially on Church Street and High Street where many of the oldest buildings are found. Within the broad framework of the project, there is scope for study of individual buildings elsewhere, and opportunities to work on projects with other BCHRC groups.

The House History Research Group meets quarterly to review progress of the research, and to exchange information. Individual members of the group concentrate on different aspects, including:

  • Fieldwork
Measurement, photography, recording of architectural features, building techniques and creating scaled drawings.
  • Documents
Documentary and photographic evidence is sought for each individual property.
  • Local Research Tools
Fixed-point data for the Bishop’s Castle area is being gathered and analysed.

New members are very welcome to join us. For details please contact us.
